UNHCR Memorandum: UNHCR has issued recommendations in the run-up to the October elections. UNHCR pursues its advocacy with the new government to inter alia maintain a protective and effective asylum system.
New Government: A new government was formed on 17 November. On the basis of the coalition agreement, asylum procedures now fall under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and reception under the Ministry of Family & Living-together.
Reception capacity: In 2023, 3,900 asylum-seekers requested housing, a record number since 2015. Since October, access to reception centres is delayed for some asylum-seekers due to overstretched capacities.
