UNSMIL Deeply Concerned About Violence in Libya, Condemns Attacks on Security Personnel and Civilians

Tripoli, 12 May 2014 – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expresses deep concern regarding the persistent violence across the country, targeting mainly personnel of various security entities and aiming at undermining civil peace and efforts to build State security institutions.

In this regard, UNSMIL condemns the brutal attack on members of the Judicial Police in the suburbs of Tripoli, the repeated assassinations and targeting of army and police personnel as well as civilian demonstrators in Benghazi.

UNSMIL calls on the authorities to take an immediate firm stance against perpetrators of such crimes and to put an end to the lawlessness, in line with principles of law and with efforts to build a State of institutions.
