  • 50,986 registered refugees and asylum-seekers
  • 50,000 Libyans currently internally displaced (IDPs), with remaining displacement needs
  • 486 monitoring visits to detention centres so far in 2023
  • 241 refugees and asylum-seekers were transferred from detention to urban settings so far in 2023
  • 753 vulnerable refugees and asylum-seekers departed on durable solutions.

Highlights include:

  • UNHCR has reached over 66,000 people in flood response efforts, distributing relief assistance including blankets, hygiene kits, medical supplies and much more, in flood-affected areas including the city of Derna
  • On 10 October, UNHCR and partner IRC conducted a mission to Al-Assah, on the Tunisia-Libya border, were refugees and migrants are held, and delivered relief assistance including medical consultations
  • On 11 October, ambassadors and delegates of diplomatic missions visited UNHCR’s Registration Centre in Serraj, followed by a donor briefing by UNHCR’s Libya Chief of Mission, Aseer T.E. Al-Madaien, where many more joined virtually
  • In October, three handover ceremonies were organized for the rehabilitation of the AbuSalim stadium and two schools in the South and Benghazi. These efforts have collectively benefited 1,257 children and students by providing sports activities and a more conducive learning environment.
