The Mayor of the Municipality of Sirte, Mokhatar Khalifa Al-Madani, received on 11 December in Tripoli a garbage truck from the Stabilization Facility for Libya (SFL).
The vehicle is part of the package which the municipality identified as priorities during a meeting with civil society and public services representatives of Sirt in March 2017.
During the handover, the Sirt Mayor stated:
“This truck will benefit our citizens. It will be transferred to the municipal cleaning company to be used to maintain our city in sanitary and hygienic conditions.”
Apart from the garbage truck, the SFL has so far delivered five ambulances and rehabilitated Al Fateh school. It has also begun the repair of three other schools and will shortly begin the refurbishment of the Polyclinic.
“I want to thank the international community for the support it is providing us through the Ministry of Planning of the Government of National Accord, and to UNDP for standing with the municipality of Sirt,” added Mr. Al-Madani.
Led by the Government of National Accord (GNA) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Facility is an immediate stabilization initiative which provides quick rehabilitation of critical infrastructure and delivery of equipment to support local authorities to improve its services to their citizens.
