The Ministry of Education and UNICEF Launch Fourth Phase of Remedial Classes and Green Schools Initiative

Attachments

In a concerted effort to enhance educational outcomes and foster environmental awareness, the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with UNICEF, has launched the fourth phase of the remedial education program for the 2024-2025 academic year. This dual-focused initiative, which has already engaged 7,857 students and 776 teachers, aims to strengthen basic Arabic language skills among early-stage students while promoting environmental stewardship through the Green Schools Initiative.

The remedial classes are designed to improve students' abilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Arabic, with a particular emphasis on correct pronunciation. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure that students develop a strong foundation in their native language, which is essential for their academic and personal growth. To support this, 22 schools have been equipped with interactive classrooms and reading corners, complete with round tables, reading books, stories, interactive learning materials, and digital resources.

Parallel to the academic focus, The Green Schools Initiative aims to instil environmental responsibility in students. UNICEF has equipped 88 schools with greening tools and seedlings, encouraging active engagement with the environment. The initiative raises awareness about environmental preservation, promotes afforestation, and fosters a culture of environmental care. Through hands-on activities, students strengthen their bond with the environment and enhance their sense of responsibility.

Supported by Education Cannot Wait, this initiative underscores the importance of integrating academic improvement with environmental education, ensuring that students are well-equipped to face both educational and ecological challenges in the future.
