The Oman Charitable Organisation (OCO) announced that the Omani relief team has completed the task of distributing five batches of aid meant for the Libyan people. A source at the OCO stated that the team distributed the fifth batch of aid last Thursday and Friday. This included medical equipment and devices, medicines and computers to serve hospitals and health centres in the northern cities, including the capital Tripoli.
It is worth mentioning that the Omani team started distributing the relief material for the brotherly people of Libyan during the past five months in one batch a month. The relief covered the western region of Libya and Mount Nefoussa and the recent batches covered the north-western region, including Tripoli.
The relief material included 1,800 tonnes (80 per cent was foodstuff, 15 per cent various relief supplies and 5 per cent medicine and medical devices). By this batch of aid, the Omani team has completed the distribution of the first stage of the aid for the Libyan people.
The Sultanate is always at the forefront of humanitarian and charitable activities. The government, private sector and the public respond with enthusiasm whenever the need for relief efforts arises in the wake of any event or natural calamity in any part of the world. The Sultanate’s ongoing aid to Somalia, Yemen and Libya is a case in point.
