- As of today, 345,749 migrants have fled after one month of violence in Libya. This figure includes 200,000 Third Country Nationals (TCNs).
- As of 22 March, the IOM-UNHCR HEC and its partners have evacuated a total of 65,425 Third Country Nationals* stranded in Tunisia, Egypt, Niger, Algeria, Chad and Sudan to return to their countries of origins. Bookings have already been confirmed for more than 2,592 persons until 28 March.
- The remaining caseload of migrants at this stage is estimated at 8,000 people to be evacuated.
- Current capacity and funding are hardly sufficient to clear the current caseload but with new daily arrivals and the potential escalation of the situation, further donor support is urgently required for those third country national migrants to be evacuated to their home countries.
- This is still mostly a migration crisis with stranded people that need assistance to go home. The fluidity of the situation makes forecast on potential caseload difficult, with a high risk of a massive influx at any moment. This could overwhelm current capacities of the authorities to manage cross-border movements and of sector partners to maintain humanitarian standards in transit centres. Such a situation can have a destabilizing effect on Tunisia and Egypt, themselves recovering from recent changes.
- Despite the difficult situation, evacuation of stranded migrants by road from Benghazi has resumed.
