Germany and UNICEF Continue to Strengthen the Child Protection System in Libya

Tunis, Tunisia, April 12, 2015 –His Excellency Mr. Christian Much, The Ambassador of Germany for Libya attended a presentation by UNICEF Libya Country Office on the progress achieved in strengthening the child protection system in Libya.

Dr. Ghassan Khalil, UNICEF Special Representative for Libya thanked the Government of Germany for the continuous support for UNICEF’s work for the children in Libya.

The Government of Germany has supported UNICEF in developing a restorative justice-based juvenile justice system in Libya, which included development of training materials and training of professionals working with children in contact with the law. His Excellency Mr. Much appreciated UNICEF’s progress since the signature of the Agreement on 20 July 2014 in Tripoli.

UNICEF will continue the capacity building activities of Libyan professionals applying a rights-based, intersectoral and a multidisciplinary approach for dealing with children in contact with the law.
