Displacement
- Over 5,800 individuals1 have been displaced in the region of Ghat (southwestern Libya) after heavy rains caused flooding in the towns of Ghat and Tahala on 16 August 2024.
- The majority of displaced individuals (4,540) are being hosted by family members (see table 1).
- In the municipality of Ghat some displaced individuals are sheltering in three camps and one school (see map 1).
- In the town of Tahala, around 320 individuals were displaced from the districts of Alkhamseen, Alghalaba, Aliskan and Algarda and are sheltered in 10 camps.
- The police station, health centre and several other municipal offices in Tahala have been flooded and are closed. Around 40 farms were also damaged by the rain.
- Ghat lies on the border with Algeria making in the transit hub for migration.
