General Updates:

  • The Libyan Red Crescent estimates the death toll from the northeastern Libya flooding could reach up to 20,000 people.

Increases in Population Densities:

  • Population metrics from Facebook users show an increase in affected areas, particularly since the flood's peak on Sept. 10th.
  • As of Sept 14th, Darnah's population is 10% above the 90-day pre-crisis baseline, likely due to the influx of aid and rescue personnel.
  • Conversely, inland areas, especially in the Bayda district, report population increases ranging from +10% to +50%.

Decreases in Population Densities:

  • Coastal regions have experienced a population decrease of up to 75% compared to baseline.

Health Infrastructure:

  • Derna's health infrastructure has been severely compromised, with almost all clinics situated within the flood's most severely affected zone. Only one clinic remains operational.
