Advanced mapping technology is crucial in Libya
MISRATA [ACTED News] -- The Geographic Information System (GIS) technology employed by ACTED through its REACH team is proving to be of invaluable assistance. To date over 50 highly detailed, fully annotated satellite maps have been produced, covering the areas of Libya most affected by the current conflict, in particular the cities of Benghazi, Ajdabiya and Misrata. The maps have proven essential in giving ACTED an overview of the needs of residents in areas of Misrata rendered inaccessible by the conflict. They also demonstrate the evolution of the situation by showing IDP movement, shelter needs and conflict sites. Crucially though, other humanitarian actors in the country are increasingly relying on ACTED’s maps for their own operations, highlighting the importance of this technology in the aid sector.
