World Vision Liberia has commenced distribution
of World Food Program bulgur wheat, peas, vegetable oil and salt to 23,295
internally displaced families in three Montserrado County camps Sawegbeh,
VOA-1 and Zuannah Town.
World Vision Switzerland has provided
a matching fund of US$54,000 towards defraying the operational cost of
US$75,000.00 for the six-month food aid project, while the Government of
Taiwan made a contribution of US$2,000.00. WFP will cover an additional
cost of US$18,918.00 for transporting, storing and handling the food.
With beneficiaries praising WV Liberia's distribution methodology as peaceful, fair and transparent, the agency's commodity officer, Andrew Omwenga, described the first month of the distribution as smooth.
The Liberia Refugee, Repatriation and Resettlement Commission, who overseer emergency relief work in the country, also lauded WV Liberia for professionally and transparently conducting the exercise.
At the same time, Andrew spoke seriously of the need for additional food and increased donor funding for hiring of more commodity staff and purchasing of additional logistics to help serve frequent influxes of internally displaced people fleeing into the camps from renewed rebel attacks in parts of the country.
