The United Nations Population Fund says it has completed a strategic ten-day campaign to treat fistula patients in Liberia with over 92 percent success reported.

The Director for the Fistula Project at UNFPA says the strategic ten-day campaign was part of the agency's annual plan to treat the sickness with rapid response.

Dr. John Mulbah said during the campaign, 78 fistula patients were treated in six of the fifteen counties.

He said the number transcends the targeted 75 persons.

Dr. Mulbah named Bong, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, River Gee, Bomi and Maryland as counties that benefited from the free short-term fistula eradication campaign.

According to the UNFPA Fistula Project Director, Lofa and Grand Bassa are the remaining two counties to benefit from the campaign.

Dr. Mulbah said although the short-term campaign has ended, outreach activities will continue throughout the eleven fistula centers around the country.

Dr. Mulbah recalled since the launch of the fistula project in 2007 by the UNFPA, nearly seven hundred women and girls have been treated with 164 recorded in 2010.
