Liberia: Libya offers m to assist Liberia in rice production

Following the willingness on the part of the Government of Libya to renovate Liberia's Five Star Ducor-Palace Hotel which was damaged during the country nearly fifteen years civil, another Libyan group has disclosed in Monrovia that it is investing over Million United States Dollars to help Liberia in its rice production drive.

Addressing reporters in Monrovia, the Vice President of Libya Africa Investment Portfolio (LAP) Mr. Filipe Gego, said his company would start operating in Liberia early next year.

He further disclosed that LAP would collaborate with the Foundation for African Development (ADA), a local Non-governmental organization in Liberia, in carrying out this venture.

The LAP Vice President also stated that his company would engage in mechanized farming as it intended to deal in breed of rice that would lead to harvest at least three times a year.

He said they were targeting providing rice for both the local and international markets from their farms in Liberia.

The project which according to Mr. Gego, was being finalized between LAP, ADA and the Government of Liberia would begin at kpatawee in Bong County and would later spread to other areas of the country.

For his part the Executive Director of ADA, Ambassador Wendell McIntosh thanked the Libyan government through LAP for the huge investment opportunity being provided in Liberia's agriculture sector.
