S/2008/85
I have the honour to refer to Security Council resolution 1792 (2007) concerning Liberia, of 19 December 2007, by which the Council decided to extend the mandate of the Panel of Experts appointed pursuant to paragraph 1 of resolution 1760 (2007) for a further period until 20 June 2008 to undertake the tasks set out in paragraph 5 of resolution 1792 (2007). By that resolution, the Council also requested me to reappoint the members of the Panel of Experts, and to make the necessary financial and security arrangements to support the work of the Panel.
Two of the panellists previously appointed under resolution 1760 (2007), Dimieari Von Kemedi (expert on arms and security) and Rajiva Sinha (Chairman and expert on finance), are not able to continue their service with the Panel at this time.
Accordingly, I wish to inform you that, after consulting with the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1521 (2003) concerning Liberia, I have appointed the following persons to serve on the Panel of Experts for a period ending on 20 June 2008:
Thomas R. Creal (United States of America,
expert on finance)
Guy Lamb (South Africa, expert on arms and security)
Wynet V. Smith (Canada, expert on natural resources)
I have also designated Ms. Smith to serve as Coordinator of the Panel.
I should be grateful if you would bring this information to the attention of the members of the Security Council.
(Signed) Ban Ki-moon
