Alex Cummings, President and COO of The Coca-Cola Company in Africa and Chairman of the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation announces donation of hospital equipment and medical supplies to Buchanan Hospital, Liberia
The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation has granted US$400,000 over a five-year period to MedShare International, a US-based non-profit organisation to supply selected hospitals in Africa with much-needed hospital equipment and medical supplies. The first project funded by this grant is a special program to support the urgent needs of the Buchanan hospital in Liberia and the Connaught hospital in Sierra Leone.
Cummings, a Liberian by birth, made the announcement during a market visit to Monrovia today - his first visit to Liberia for more than 20 years. He stated: "The Coca-Cola Company's investment and involvement in Liberia is not only for economic benefit, which is important, but also to support the communities in which we live and work."
This month, one 40ft container is arriving at Buchanan hospital via the port in Monrovia. The delivery of the vital hospital equipment and medical supplies is part of a programme which identifies the most pressing needs of Buchanan Hospital, installs the equipment and trains hospital personnel in repair and maintenance of equipment and provides follow-up support.
