WFP boss assesses looming famine in Southern Africa
Dakar, Senegal (PANA) - The UN World
Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director James Morris has arrived in Johannesburg
on a seven-day mission to Southern Africa, a region hosting more than 15
million people affected by severe food shortages.
Morris, who is the UN Secretary General's special envoy for Humanitarian Needs for Southern Africa, has already visited Ethiopia, where he observed that "between April and June, more than 11 million people would face the most acute and stark hunger of the year."

"More relief food ships must be sent from overseas to arrive in time especially ahead of the rainy season in June, when remote areas would be cut off," he warned about the plight of famine-stricken Ethiopians.
