HIGHLIGHTS
- Amid severe funding shortfalls, WFP was forced to reduce its assistance for vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian refugees reaching in December only 46 percent of its planned target of 1.4 million people. By December, cash assistance to Syrian refugees decreased by 59 percent since January 2025 while cash assistance to conflict affected Lebanese decreased by 66 percent during the same period.
- WFP continues to respond to the urgent needs of post-December 2024 arrivals from Syria. In December, WFP provided 1.9 million daily hot and cold meals to 31,700 people across 143 shelters and distributed monthly food parcels to almost 8,100 individuals (2,000 households) outside shelters. Moreover, to ease the financial burden on families hosting displaced Syrians, WFP provided a second round of emergency food assistance to around 300 host households in Akkar and North Lebanon governorates, reaching around 1,100 individuals hosting displaced Syrians.
- With rising needs outpacing available resources, and winter conditions adding further challenges, WFP urgently requires USD 140 million for the next six months to continue critical assistance to the vulnerable population. This funding is critical to expand assistance to over 1.2 million vulnerable Lebanese, Syrian refugees and post-December 2024 arrivals from Syria.
