SITUATION UPDATE

  • Mass displacement in Lebanon has surged, with 211,319 internally displaced people (IDPs), including around 74,000 children, according to IOM (DTM round 48). The number of IDPs doubled in just 72 hours, surpassing the total count since the conflict began in October 2023. UNHCR reported that thousands of Lebanese and Syrian people are fleeing Lebanon for Syria due to the Israeli airstrikesi.
  • There are over 78,000 IDPs in nearly 560 collective shelters, according to the Disaster Risk Management Unit, with most of the shelters being public schools in Beirut and Mount Lebanon Governorates.
  • Over 600 people have been killed, including more than 50 children and 94 women, and approximately 1,700 others have been injured in Lebanon this week, according to the Ministry of Public Health.

Educational institutions in Lebanon are closed for learning, following the Ministry of Education & Higher Education’s postponement of the new school year and suspension of classes in public schools until 14 October and private schools until 07 October 2024.

Around 70% of Nabatieh’s water stations are damaged, according to the South Lebanon Water Establishment. A total of 25 water facilities have been damaged since October 2023, affecting over 270,000 people.

Across Lebanon, 32 Primary Health Care Centres (PHCCs) were closed on 26 September 2024 due to their location in high-risk areas. Additional 11 PHCC Satellite Units had their operations disrupted due to airstrikes in the South, Nabatieh and Baalbek-Hermel Governerates.
