The hostilities in the Tartous, Lattakia, Homs, and Hama Governorates of Syria in early March continue to displace people into the North and Akkar Governorates, reaching now nearly 35,900 people with further arrivals expected.
Newly arrived refugees are now staying across 28 villages in Akkar. Local authority official figures from Disaster Risk Management (DRM) cite 23,627 individuals (4,870 families, including 172 Lebanese families) as of 16 April in Akkar. The highest concentrations are in Massaaoudiye (11,502 individuals/1,951 families), Hissa (1,765 individuals/391 families), Tall Bire (1,513 individuals/344 families) and Tall Hmayra (1,033 individuals/238 families).
Following the Lebanese Red Cross enumeration exercise, an increased total of 2,945 families/12,219 individuals were counted in North Governorate, of which an estimated 289 are Lebanese families.
Geographically, most families are residing in Jabal Mohsen area of Tripoli 2,185 families), Koura (309 families), and Dhour el Hawa (279 families).
Arrivals continue in the low hundreds across both Governorates, noting that the increase of over 5,000 individuals in the last twelve days was mostly due to ongoing efforts of identification of people during enumeration and distribution exercises
