As it may be recalled, due to the conflict breaking out between Israel and Lebanon in the summer of 2006, Turkish Red Crescent (TRC), so as to alleviate human suffering, started a humanitarian relief operation on behalf of the affected population in the area.
To this end, in the emergency phase TRC dispatched 1 ship and 1 cargo plane and 23 trailers load of humanitarian relief items to the area in 6 shipments amounting to some 5 million USD in close coordination with Lebanese Red Cross and other Lebanese authorities.
Turkish Red Crescent (TRC) handed over 37 school buildings to Lebanese authorities as of October 31, 2008.
In the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase, based on the needs of affected population and request by related authorities, TRC has also constructed 37 school buildings, which are fully furnished and equipped and the total cost of which is around 7 million USD throughout Lebanon. The said schools are supposed to home in total some 5.500 students: 30 school buildings (314 m2) have the capacity to hold 135 students while 7 buildings (564 m2) can hold up to 180 students. The buildings are also equipped with boards, desks, tables, cupboards, necessary teaching materials and generators as well as air conditions.
