February 7th, 2017 ― Doha: In a quick response to Storm Perla, which has recently covered Lebanon with snow, Qatar Red Crescent's (QRCS) Mission in Lebanon has delivered winterization aid for Syrian refugees affected by the snowstorm, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Five thousand blankets were distributed to 1,500 Syrian families in Arsal, Al-Bekaa, who are not included on the aid rosters of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

These distributions are aimed at improving the living conditions of the beneficiaries, especially in the current cold spell.

Storm Perla left behind many patients and damage to refugee tents and Arsal roads.

"These distributions are particularly important as the beneficiaries receive no assistance from any humanitarian agencies. Located 1,500 meters above sea level, Arsal took the brunt of the blizzard, with temperatures well below zero at night," said Omar Katerji, Head of QRCS Mission in Lebanon.

Hussein Hamdan, Program Manager at the Mission, commended IOM's contribution to the intervention, adding, "There is a strategic partnership between QRCS and IOM in Syrian neighbors. We work closely together to find sustainable solutions for the issues of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, with a special focus on the most needy regions like Arsal and Akkar".
