OIC secretary general strongly condemns the tragic killing of UN peacekeepers in Lebanon

Jeddah, 25 June 2007. The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has strongly condemned Sunday's roadside bomb attack on the peacekeepers of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which resulted in the tragic loss of five Spanish and Colombian peacekeepers and wounded five others.

Professor Ihsanoglu deeply regretted this loss of precious lives and noted that this was a heinous crime committed against military personnel, who are undertaking a noble service to restore peace and stability to one of its fellow Member State. The Secretary General also reiterated OIC's continued support for the United Nations commendable peace-building efforts in Lebanon.
