[Middle East Crisis] Singapore Red Cross Supports Relief Operations in Lebanon & Gaza, Launches Public Fundraising Appeal

10 October 2024 — In response to the humanitarian crisis resulting from the conflict in the Middle East, with Lebanon and Gaza at the forefront, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) is contributing USD 50,000 to support critical relief operations by the Lebanese Red Cross for the affected communities. The SRC will also launch a fundraising appeal to provide urgent humanitarian relief.

Lebanon is currently facing one of its most severe crises, following a series of devastating explosions in Beirut since 27 September 2024, amidst intensifying hostilities. The southern regions of Lebanon and the suburbs of Beirut have been affected by the conflict that has claimed over 2,000 lives and more than 10,000 injured. The ongoing conflict has also displaced tens of thousands of families, with around 100,000 people seeking refuge in neighbouring Syria, adding on to the already overwhelming humanitarian needs in the region.

As Lebanon's lead emergency and disaster responder, the Lebanese Red Cross (LRC) has mobilised hundreds of volunteers and ambulances to assist in rescue operations and evacuations amid the escalating crisis; To address the urgent need for blood, LRC continues to issue nationwide appeals for blood donations to treat the injured. Additionally, LRC is deploying mobile clinics to deliver essential healthcare services, focusing on chronic disease management for displaced individuals. As part of their relief activities, LRC is also distributing blankets, food, hygiene kits, and shelter assistance to displaced families, while providing vital water and sanitation services for displaced families.
