Lebanon: Situation update - 24 hours to 15:3 19 June 2007

Situation in the North: Heavy clashes continued between the Lebanese Army and Fatah al-Islam during the weekend. The humanitarian situation inside Nahr el-Bared has deteroriated however it is believe less than 100 people remain inside the camp. Palestinian Red Crescent Society managed to evacuate eight civilian Palestinian Refugees from the Camp. It is estimated 6,140 families have left Nahr el-Bared so far. In neighbouring Beddawi Camp, 5,122 families are accommodated while 229 families are accommodated in six government schools in Beddawi town.

Situation in central Beirut: UNRWA installations are operating normally. Some 414 displaced families from Nahr el-Bared Camp have arrived in central Lebanon area (Beirut) so far.

Situation in Beqaa: All UNRWA operations in the Beqaa area are functioning normally. A total of 96 displaced families have arrived in the Beqaa area.

Situation in Tyre: All installations operating normally. Situation is tense following the recent targeting of Hamas members owned vehicles and pictures of Hamas leaders. A total of 224 displaced families from Nahr el-Bared Camp arrived in the Tyre area. Distribution for special hardship cashes continues in Rashidieh camp Distribution of hygiene kits to displaced families and food parcels to hosting families in Tyre Area is ongoing.

Situation in Saida: The Lebanese Army continues to surround the two camps and is still on full alert; UNRWA installations in Saida area are operating normally. Following an explosion taking place on 18 June in Taamir area there is a tense atmosphere in the camp. Two persons were killed and four were injured; media reported that all were Jund Al-Sham members. A total of 294 displaced families have arrived in Saida from Nahr el-Bared Camp.
