On 4 August 2020, a massive explosion at The Port of Beirut (PoB) destroyed much of the port and severely damaged the dense surrounding residential and commercial areas in Beirut, Lebanon. The explosion caused the deaths of 178 individuals with a further 30 still missing and more than 6,000 injured (as of 13 August 2020). It is estimated by the Shelter Sector that more 47,000 apartments sustained some level of damage, affecting more than 170,000 residents, whilst the devastating damage and structural effects of the blast have been felt up to 10km away. IOM estimates that 24,600 migrant workers have also been directly affected by the blast.
