SNAPSHOT SUMMARY:
Context
The situation in Lebanon continues to deteriorate, with Israeli airstrikes intensifying across heavily populated areas, including South Lebanon, Beirut, Mount Lebanon (BML), Bekaa and for the first time since the beginning of the conflict, North Lebanon. On 10 October, 2024, Israeli airstrikes in central Beirut (Noueiry and Basta) hit residential buildings, killing 22 and injuring 117 people. On 10 and 11 October, UNIFIL’s Naqoura headquarters and nearby positions were repeatedly hit by the Israeli forces, injuring at least two peacekeepers, damaging vehicles and a communications system, and disabling monitoring cameras. These attacks followed others on civil defense centers and healthcare facilities, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
Internal displacement has surged, with over 1.2 million people displaced, including more than 275,000 Lebanese and Syrians fleeing to Syria. As of 10 October, 2024, more than 660,000 people (including women, men, girls, and boys) were internally displaced within Lebanon, according to the UN.
