Lebanon
January 2012
Through the eyes of a young Lebanese man, a new UNRWA documentary offers a rare glimpse of life inside a Palestine refugee camp in Lebanon. In the 24-minute film Someone Like Me, Alaa is taken to Burj Barajneh Camp by his Palestinian friend Omar, where he sees first-hand the narrow alleys and living conditions of the refugees who live there.
Funded by the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO), the 24-minute film Someone Like Me sheds light on the challenges and aspirations of young Palestine refugees growing up in Lebanon.
The premiere screening drew more than 250 people to the Madina Theatre in Beirut on 10 January, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from UNRWA, Lebanon, Palestine and the European Union, along with the filmmaker Philippe Bajjali and the main characters Omar and Alaa.
