The International Federation's Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) is a source of un-earmarked money created by the Federation in 1985 to ensure that immediate financial support is available for Red Cross Red Crescent response to emergencies. The DREF is a vital part of the International Federation's disaster response system and increases the ability of National Societies to respond to disasters.

Summary: CHF 100,044 was allocated from the Federation's Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) on 9 June, 2010 to support the national society in delivering assistance to some 2,835 beneficiaries and to replenish disaster preparedness stocks.

This allocation supported the Kyrgyzstan Red Crescent's operation to provide relief and early recovery to the affected population in the south of the country, whose houses and possessions were destroyed as a result of mudslides on 3 June 2010.

Because of the outbreak of violence in the southern regions of the country on 10 June, followed by a massive population movement, the mudslides response operation was suspended and re-started after 15 July 2010 when the situation had stabilized.
