OSH (ACTED News) -- The violent conflict that erupted in the Kyrgyz Ferghana Valley in June 2010 resulted in catastrophic damage to property and loss of belongings for affected populations. To address this, ACTED distributed household and winter non-food items (NFI) to over 24,500 individuals in Osh and Jalalabad regions since February, to help them be better prepared for the cold winter temperatures in the valley. ACTED had nearly completed its final NFI distributions following the June events and the subsequent emergency intervention. With support from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), ACTED has distributed bedding kits donated by IKEA to families whose homes were damaged, destroyed or looted during the crisis, as well as vulnerable individuals living in social institutions. In total, 6,463 mattresses, 7,035 folding beds, and 23,931 pillows and bed linen sets will be provided by ACTED. The final distributions to recently identified looted families will be completed in the coming days.
