Biophysical Indicators

• The County received rainfall of below normal amount, with fair temporal and even spatial distribution across the livelihood zones.

• The vegetation cover index increased to 47 from 38 recorded in June and all Sub-counties realized normal conditions. The trend is upward across the livelihood zones as depicted by the surge in Vegetation Condition Index relative to that of June. Pokot Central improved from moderate drought conditions experienced in the previous month to normal conditions in July.

• Status of water sources is near normal as water levels remained at above 50 percent in most parts of the County.

Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)

• Milk production was above normal while milk consumption was below normal and consumption at household level improved across the County.

• Livestock body condition for cattle and sheep varied between fair and poor while that of camel and goat ranged between good and fair across the County, with an improving trend.

• Distances to water sources for households decreased in all livelihood zones.

• The terms of trade remained low and unfavourable with a stable trend across livelihood zones. Most of the households were at Acceptable Food Consumption Score category.

• The Coping Strategy Index slightly declined in all livelihood zones.
