At the end of the bulletin, a table provides information on all new and ongoing public health events currently being monitored in the region, as well as recent events that have been controlled and closed.
Major Issues
Mpox in Kenya: The ongoing mpox outbreak in Kenya has spread across multiple counties, particularly those situated along the Northern Corridor transport route. While public health interventions are underway, gaps remain in community engagement and timely access to care. Misinformation continues to hinder risk communication efforts, and there is a pressing need to build trust within communities. Additionally, enhancing the diagnostic capacity of sub-national laboratories and strengthening healthcare worker training on Mpox identification and case management are critical areas requiring urgent attention. Further efforts are needed to strengthen cross-border coordination, target high-risk groups, and explore vaccination strategies for comprehensive containment.
