Biophysical Indicators

The initial phase of October-December 2024 short rainy season was characterized by significant rainfall deficit. The KMD forecasts lower than average rainfall for the remaining period of the season. Vegetation Condition: The vegetation condition index (VCI) was above normal greenness.

Production indicators

• Delayed planting in Agro-Pastoral Livelihood Zone due to lack of rains

• Livestock are in good to fair body condition

• Reduced milk production at household level was reported

Access indicators:

• The ToT dropped by 20 percent in October compared to last month

• The grazing distance to water sources increased compared to last month

• Reduction in livestock prices for all species

• There was a continued decline in milk consumption

• Slight increase in maize price was reported

Utilization Indicators:

▪ The proportion of children at risk of malnutrition increased from 8.1 percent last month to 9.3 percent in October 2024

▪ Household food consumption data shows that over 19 percent of the households experience acute food insecurity

▪ Coping strategy index stabilized at a score of 9.3

▪ Confirmed active outbreaks of PPR and CCPP reported across the county
