Biophysical Indicators

In July 2024, there was a noticeable shift towards cold and dry weather conditions across the county. The KMD August 2024 weather outlook indicates the county will generally be dry and sunny.

Vegetation Condition: The vegetation condition index (VCI) was above normal greenness.

Production indicators

• Harvesting, on a limited scale, currently ongoing in Agro-Pastoral Livelihood Zone • Livestock are in good to very good body condition

• Milk production remained above average

Access indicators:

• The Terms of Trade was favorable at 82 kgs of maize for a sale of goat

• The livestock distance to water sources increased compared to last month

• Livestock prices for camels and goats increased due to increased demand.

• Milk consumption slightly increased from 1.9litres in June to 2 litres in July

• A slight increase in Maize price was noted at KES. 87 per kilo

Utilization Indicators:

▪ The proportion of children at risk of malnutrition stood at 11 percent

▪ Households in Pastoral Livelihood Zone reported the most food consumption gaps

▪ Coping strategy index reduced from 8 in June 2024 to 7.8 in July 2024.

▪ No disease outbreak reported during the month under review
