HIGHLIGHTS

  • By July 2023, approximately 2.8 million people were food-insecure and in need of humanitarian assistance, down from 4.4 million people in February 2023.

  • The number of children 6 to 59 months requiring treatment for acute malnutrition has only slightly decreased from 970,214 in February 2023 to 945,610 in July 2023, attributable to the cumulative effects of the drought on food security, and WASH and health status. Of these, 216,794 children are severely acutely malnourished.

  • The EI-Nino-enhanced October to December 2023 rains may affect 2 million people across 33 counties and lead to displacement of 200,000 people.

  • USD 38.4 million has been received against the HAC 2023, leaving a funding gap of USD 98.9 million (72%) against the US$137.5 million requirement.

  • Over 1.2 million people (of which 900,000 are children) have been reached with lifesaving and protective humanitarian interventions (41%) against the 2.9 million HAC target.
