Biophysical Indicators

• County remained fairly dry apart from light erratic showers that were received in parts of Turkana West.

• The VCI portrays above normal vegetation greenness for the current period. However quality of pasture has deteriorated.

• Open Water sources are starting to dry up due to extreme temperatures being recorded.

Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)

Production indicators:

• The livestock body condition for all species is good as a result of available forage condition. • Rain-fed farms are at flowering stage but at risk of wilting due to cessation of rain.

• Milk production stabilized compared to May.

Access indicators:

• Milk consumption also stabilized when compared to May.

• The Terms of Trade improved attributed to increased livestock prices against stable cereal prices.

Utilization indicators:

• Proportion of sampled households who recorded poor FCS declined when compared to the previous month.

• The proportion of children who were categorized as ‘moderately malnourished’ improved slightly due to availability of milk and wild indigenous vegetables.
