Biophysical Indicators
• Most parts of the county did not experience any significant rainfall in July with dry and hot weather conditions (340C35 0C) dominating across all livelihood zones. Total rainfall for the 6-month period (February - July 2022) accounted for only 34 percent of the normal rainfall for the period.
• Remarkable deterioration in the vegetation condition was noted as supported by the decline in the VCI-3month index across all the sub-counties. The Fishing and Pastoral Livelihood Zones were experiencing moderate to severe vegetation deficit.
• Considerable deterioration in the water levels was observed with 80 percent of water pans drying up and the operational capacity of boreholes was on a low of 64 percent while the depth of traditional river wells elongated beyond five metres.

Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)
• Livestock body condition for browsers was fair while that of grazers was poor and deteriorating. Access distance to water source increased falling outside the normal range.
• Milk production and consumption was at nil level while the terms of trade declined further remaining outside the seasonal range by a significant margin. Out-migration was witnessed more so from the Eastern side of the county to the Western side with estimated 50-80 percent of the herd migrating.
• Proportion of under-fives who were moderately malnourished increased with over 20 percent of the households engaging in ‘crisis’ consumption based coping strategies while the, proportion of households categorized as having a poor FCS was typically high beyond the normal range for the period.
