Vegetation condition worsened during the reporting period as evidenced by the 3M-VCI that dropped from 25 recorded in the previous month to 23 for January. Milk production was below the average for the period due to poor livestock body condtion and long trekking distance to water sources that rendered them weak. This equally contributed to poor milk consumption within household levels.
The Terms of trade was below the average and being attributed to high Maize prices against declining market prices of goats across the three livelihoods in the county coupled with poor livestock body condition that could not attract favourable market prices. Additionally, there was high availability of goats at the markets as Pastrolaists sought to get money for school fees which led to low price of goats as supply went high. -
The nutrition of children under five year increased due to poor food consumption at household levels during the month as they relied on less preferred food that are nutritionally poor and skipped meals for the day.
-
Households applied worse coping strategies in effort to solve lack of food or money to buy food during the month under review. Thi is was attributed to poor livestock market prices rendering pastrolists unable to access money or food as they sell their livestock at the major markets across the livelihoods in the county.
