Drought Situation & EW Phase Classification

Biophysical Indicators

    • Taveta Sub County received moderate rains, Mwatate and Taita Sub Counties light rains while Voi Sub County areas of Kasigau Ward registered heavy rains for two days.
    • Positive impact is expected on water and livestock sector due to water source recharge and regeneration of pasture.
    • Vegetation condition index was below normal at 15.69.

    • In the lowlands land preparation was ongoing while in the highlands farmers were busy planting.
    • Livestock body condition is fair.
    • Milk production is deteriorating mainly in the lowlands.

Access Indicators - Most open water sources were dry.

  • Increased cases of human wildlife conflict in the county.

  • Terms of Trade remained favorable.
    Utilization Indicators - The proportion of children at risk of malnutrition is within normal range.
