Samburu women benefit from hygiene training

MARALAL [ACTED News] – The recently ended short rains have filled the seasonal unprotected water sources in Samburu County, putting communities at risk of contracting water-borne diseases which contribute to malnutrition. ACTED and its partner, Pastoral Governance Development Project (PGDP), are training 1,000 women from 41 women groups throughout the County on water-borne diseases, water contamination, water treatment and basic hygiene practices. They will later distribute hygiene kits to enable the women to put into practice what they have learnt.

Providing training to these women creates high impact by reaching the traditional care givers in this society. These women are excited about the training, with one mother of 5 indicating that the information “was an eye opener and very important to improving my family’s health.”
