Biophysical Indicators

  • The county received sporadic showers in last week of November 2021 however the month was generally dry and sunny. Forage condition remained poor in terms of quality and quantity in most parts of the county. Insignificant recharge was noticed for open water sources although majority are still dry. Strategic boreholes are high usage thus resulting to high abstraction rates.

Socio Economic Indicators Details

  • Cattle body condition remained poor across the livelihood zones and fair to poor for goats, sheep and camels thus resulting into below average livestock productivity.

  • Despite the sporadic showers livestock and households are still walking long distances and remained above the longterm average.

  • Deterioration in livestock prices still continued to be observed remaining below the normal average.

  • The increase demand in maize coupled with depletion of household stocks have led to increase in maize/Posho market prices.

  • Prevalence of malnutrition for children under five worsened to 28.4 percent from 24.5 percent for moderately malnourished children based on family MUAC.
