Dear Partners,

The Elections Violence Response Initiative (EVRI-1) launched on 29th December 2007 by peace building partners to address the violence that erupted after the announcement of the 2007 presidential election results continues to strengthen community peace building initiatives across Kenya. This publication aims at informing partners on peace situation in various regions of the country and their interventions to ensure harmony returns.

Intervention: Round one of Student peace forums held

Over 100 students drawn from 12 schools in Nairobi met on Friday, March 21, 2008 at Jamuhuri high school to discuss on peace and conflict issues. The students presented poems, drawings and other exhibitions with themes bordering on peace and conflict issues.

Students were encouraged to come up with action plans on two activities they could undertake for the next three months. The forum was convened by the Coalition for Peace in Africa (COPA). V oluntary Youth Philanthropists held two activities on Saturday, March 22, 2008 in Nakuru. Students from three schools in the area held a drama festival on peace building at Menengai high school. Another three schools in the area had a forum on peace building and leadership skills targeting student leaders. A nother peace forum targeting college students was also held on Firday, March 21, 2008 at the Kenya Polytechnic where students from colleges in Nairobi and Thika held discussions on the importance of promoting peace in their institutions.
