Dear Partners,

The Elections Violence Response Initiative (EVRI - 1) was launched on 29th December 2007 at PeaceNet Secretariat in Nairobi by peacebuilding partners to address the violence and wanton destruction of property that erupted after the announcement of the 2007 presidential, parliamentary and civic elections. This publication aims at informing partners of unfolding events and mobilizing stakeholders for interventions.

Interventions

- EVRI - 1 is now holding every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at PeaceNet - Kenya to address the crisis facing the country. The meetings have so far harmonized various initiatives aimed at peacebuilding and reconciling the country.

- The forum has supported the white ribbon campaign which is a national solidarity stand for Peace.

- A week long "Kenya Nyeupe campaign' scheduled from 15th - 22nd January 2008, an Initiative of EVRI is being organized. The campaign calls on all Kenyans to wear white, and brand Kenya white as a call for peace in the country.

- A campaign dubbed 'Black Tuesday campaign' set to be launched on the 15th of January, 2008.

- The meeting felt need to understand the two campaigns and requested the two groups to convene on 14th January 2008 to deliberate further on the campaigns.

- The youth for peace and development has rolled out ameeting with youth in the outskirts of Rift Valley. They have also trained 50 youth in Nairobi on violence and active non violence in conjunction with the Nairobi mission of scientology.

- Trauma healing services for the internally displaced persons will be coordinated from Ministry of Health and will link with EVRI initiative. The meeting tasked the EVRI sub committee to convene ministry and develop the way forward.
