Biophysical Indicators

• Cessation of the long rains occurred in the second dekad of June.

• Off-season showers experienced in July with amounts averaging 61.77mm compared with 42mm normally.

• Forage condition was good but on a slightly deteriorating trend. • The vegetation condition was above normal.

Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)

Production Indicators

• The livestock body condition for all species was good but on a deteriorating trend.

• Milk production was 20.3 percent higher than the highest production ever recorded for the month at 5.9 litres.

• Maize, bean and Irish potato production projected to be below-average due to leaching, crop destruction and fungal diseases.

Access Indicators

• Access to water for both livestock and household use was within normal ranges across both livelihood zones.

• Milk consumption was within seasonal ranges.

• Terms of trade were 71.7 percent higher than the highest value ever recorded in Kieni for the month at 60.

Utilization Indicators

• The nutrition status of children was better than normal for this time of the year The coping strategy index stood at 5.3 in July.

• The food consumption score averaged 31.1 in July
