The Nation Media Group (NMG) has joined the list of corporates supporting the drought appeal that was launched by the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), donating five million shillings towards KRCS drought response kitty.
This follows the failure of the 2016 long and short rains that has so far rendered 23 counties food insecure. As a result, KRCS appealed to partners, corporates and well wishers to assist in the mitigation of the drought that has affected 2.7 million people.
“I want to thank the Kenya Red Cross Society not only for their efforts to mitigate the ongoing drought but for the many humanitarian works it has undertaken in our country. It is important as the largest media house in the region to let people know of such great work being done around us,” said Joseph Muganda.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of KRCS was the Secretary General, Dr. Abbas Gullet who expressed his gratitude to the NMG for the kind donation. “We appreciate the local support we continue to receive. I urge the private sector to invest in projects like water, infrastructure, agricultural projects and technology for better response of drought in the coming years,” said Dr. Gullet.
Out of the total donation, Sh. 2million was given in cash and sh. 3million in kind, which can be utilized through media advertisements, information dissemination and any media related use.
“Kenya Red Cross can count on The Nation Media Group for support now and in future,” concluded Muganda.
