Current Situation

Following the heavy rains and subsequent flash floods and building collapse in Huruma Estate on 29th April 2016, KRCS has continued to work with other stakeholders and partners in carrying out various interventions that include assessment in various flooded slum estates, and search and rescue mission in Huruma – the scene of collapsed building.

As at the time of releasing this Sitrep, 12 people had been confirmed dead, 134 injured others had been treated for minor injuries by the medical teams on the ground and at various health facilities, while 69 people have been reported to the Kenya Red Cross tracing desk as missing.

KRCS has deployed 10 counselors to the scene – 5 from KRCS and 5 from Amani Counselors. So far, 148 people have been reached with PSS, 60 through one–on–one sessions and the rest through 6 group sessions.
