Drought Situation & EW Phase Classification Biophysical Indicators

  • Rainfall received in all parts of the County during the month under review.
  • The 3-month Vegetation Condition index for the County was 16.1classifying it as severe drought but field observation shows normal vegetation greenness in all sub counties
  • All earth pans in the County impounded water that can last for at least one to three months.

Socio economic indicators

  • Milk production and consumption has improved compared to last month.
  • Terms of trade are favourable to pastoral communities.
  • Pasture regeneration has been noted in all parts of the county
  • Browse conditions are good in the entire County.
  • Livestock prices have increased compared to last month.
  • The body condition for shoat and Camel has improved while cattle is still poor but on improving trend
  • The utilization indicator is within the normal range.
  • Cholera outbreak was reported in Mandera Town during the month
  • Floods along River Daua have been witnessed and farms are still water logged
