Biophysical Indicators

  • The month of February was generally dry expect for light showers that were unevenly distributed.

  • The vegetation greenness for the month was good as indicated by vegetation condition index of 48.31.

Socio Economic Indicators

  • Livestock body condition is good for all species and animals are grazing in their normal grazing areas at this time of the year.

  • Milk production was below normal and no drought related deaths were reported

  • Crop condition is good.

  • Terms of trade are favourable for Livestock Keepers and milk consumption is above the long term mean. Proceeds from sale of a goat could buy 114kg of maize

  • The return distances to water sources were within normal ranges at 2.6km while the cost of water was normal at kshs 2 per 20litres jerry can.

  • The percentage of children at risk of malnutrition as measured by mid upper arm circumference (MUAC) below 135mm was 5.1 below the long term mean of 9 percent.Coping strategy index (CSI) werewithin the normal ranges and mainly communities employed food coping strategies like reducing the size of meals.
