Biophysical Indicators (Environmental indicators)

  • Insignificant amount of rainfall was recorded in February

  • The pasture and browse condition ranged from fair to good but a deteriorating trend was observed across all livelihood zones.

  • Average 3 month VCI was 50.68 a decline from the previous month.

Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)

Production indicators

  • Livestock body condition was ranged from fair to good across all livelihood zones

  • Milk production decreased further in the current month.

  • Poor maize crop harvest recorded but cassava harvest was good.

Access indicators

  • The average distance to water sources by both households and livestock recorded a further increase.

  • The terms of trade were favorable for the livestock farmers during the month as compared to the previous month.

  • 38% of total milk produced was consumed at households while the rest was sold at average price of Kshs48.

Utilization indicators

  • The proportion of children at risk of malnutrition increased further

  • The coping strategy index increased as household food security continued to deteriorate.
