Nairobi, Jul 18, 2005 (The East African Standard/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) - Kenya Red Cross Society will put up regional centres countrywide for effective response to disasters.
The organisation's governor, Paul Birech, said the centres would be equipped to handle disasters.
Birech was speaking in Kisumu yesterday during the opening of a branch office by Roads minister Raila Odinga. He said the move was part of plans to decentralise disaster management.
Mbita MP Otieno Kajwang' and Nyanza Provincial Commissioner Noor Hassan Noor attended.
"Kisumu is our second regional centre after Nakuru. Our wish is to decentralise our activities by opening more regional centres throughout the country," he said.
He urged the Government and local community to seek permanent solutions to the perennial flooding in the region.
